Sharifah Amin:

What city were you born and raised in? I was born in Georgetown, Guyana South America

Where did you/do you go to college? I attended Medgar Evers College where I earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in criminal justice.

What was your favorite childhood book ?My favorite childhood book is the Nancy Drew Mystery series that’s ghost written by Carolyn Keene.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? My inspiration to serve came as a result of my love for reading and my belief that reading is essential in every aspect of life. A high school teacher of mine once quoted a line from Kingdom of heaven and it resonated with me, he said; “what man is a man that does not make the world a better place, and it’s one of the mantras that I not only serve by but also live by.”

Nikki Branhut:

What city were you born and raised in? Philadelphia, PA

Where did you/do you go to college? I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2015. I majored in Psychology and Communication.

What was your favorite childhood book? My favorite childhood book was Holes by Louis Sachar.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? I was inspired to serve with Read More Corps because I believe that literacy is truly the key to a successful future.

Nicholas “Nick” Egbert:

What city were you born and raised in? Fremont, Ohio

Where did you/do you go to college? The Ohio State University, 2015

What was your favorite childhood book? Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By: Bill Martin Jr

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? I am inspired by helping and seeing others succeed.

Latoya Fife:

What city were you born and raised in? I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and I migrated to Brooklyn at 16 with my family.

Where did you/do you go to college? I currently attend Suny Empire College, my major is writing and literature.

What was your favorite childhood book? My favorite childhood book was a book named Boyo and Carla. It’s a Caribbean children’s book that focused on reading readiness.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? I decided to serve because I was working a job I hated and I was ready to jump into what I was passionate about. I am passionate about books and I love that Americorps along with Reading Rescue is helping me share my love for books.

Latarsha Foxworth:

What city were you born and raised in? Queens

Where did you/do you go to college? I attended the College of New Rochelle Manhattan campus for one year.

What was your favorite childhood book? My favorite childhood book is the Hungry Caterpillar.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? I’m inspired to serve under privileged children because I strongly feel all children should receive quality education.

What city were you born and raised in? Born and raised in NYC: grew up in Chelsea and now resides in Borough park

Where did you/do you go to college? Hampshire college in Amherst MA (B.A. in Creative writing & world history)

What was your favorite childhood book? Ferdinand the Bull, The Owl and the Pussycat (later the Marian Chronicles)

What city were you born and raised in? I was born and raised in the Bronx.

What was your favorite childhood book? My favorite childhood book is the Gunny Wolf. Reading the Gunny wolf book made me fall in love with the alphabet.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? I have been working with kids since I was 15yrs old. I really enjoy the smiles on kids faces when they succeed.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member? What inspired me to serve for Read More Corps is being able to make an impact on NYC Communities while helping students build literacy skills. This is an exciting opportunity to provide direct service and learn about the NYC Public Schools.

What inspired you to serve as a RMC member?As a prior ESL student, I didn’t transition into a regular classroom until the 2nd grade. I had personally witnessed the profound impact of literacy on her personal, academic, and professional life. I am excited to prepare young leaders of the modern world by sharing my love for reading and learning.
