Our Mission:
Through professional development, we give elementary school staff members the tools to become effective interventionists who propel struggling first and second graders towards grade-level proficiency in reading.

Reading Rescue is...
a professional development program and a one-on-one research-based literacy intervention geared towards struggling first and second graders.
Reading Rescue is the largest growing literacy intervention program in New York City public schools. Elementary schools in need of support bring in Reading Rescue to ensure that staff members use research-based strategies to accelerate reading and writing growth for its most struggling students.
Reading Rescue targets first and second graders who are below grade-level and pairs them with skilled instructors.
Reading Rescue works with teachers, paraprofessionals, and school aides to ensure they know how to teach reading.
Reading Rescue is in hundreds of public schools where teams of instructors work together to promote literacy.
Reading Rescue professional development consists of ten full-day workshops. Each workshop is led by a Reading Rescue expert who guides participants through discussions and activities. All participants are expected to take the best practices learned in Reading Rescue workshops back to their schools and implement said practices in daily one-on-one instruction with eligible students.
Reading Rescue professional development incorporates all five pillars of literacy--phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Reading Rescue instruction is entirely data-driven, based solely on what individual students need to practice as determined through individualized assessments at the start of the program.
Reading Rescue promotes teaching phonics through a multi-sensory approach that uses multiple modalities, including visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactical.
Reading Rescue covers both reading and writing to ensure a holistic approach to literacy development that acknowledges the reciprocal development of both skills simultaneously.
